Since the beginning of March it's been the time to get into high gear as this is the season for many of the regional and local paint outs. At the beginning of March was the Annual Wekiva Paint Out, which is always enjoyable and even more so since there were sales. I would like to thank the event organizers and volunteers for once again putting on an excellent event. I especially want to thank Chuck O'Neal for his support and for being a repeat client!
As well as all of the paint outs, the St Augustine Art Association held their "Miniature Marvels" exhibition for the month of March. The requirements for the show were for the work to be under 12" in both height and width, including framing. I had three paintings accepted into the show and was honored to be awarded "Best in Show" for my 5x7" painting "Guana Preserve Tonal". The painting also sold (thank you, Gary)!
I have also had some recent commission work. I would like to thank David and Beth Bolton for commissioning me to create a painting for their home. Commissions can be a lot of work, and potentially a lot of frustration because the artist must find what it is their clients are envisioning and make a painting that fulfills that vision. Oftentimes the client doesn't really know what they want until they see some concepts. It takes good communication, asking the right questions, and doing numerous sketches and studies to find the right combination of elements and design that captures everything they want and makes that emotional connection with them. This was a great experience as they were wonderful to work with and they were extremely happy with the final result.

The next paint out on the schedule is the 11th Annual Winter Park Paint Out, April 21-27, 2019, which is held each year to raise funds for the Albin Polasek Museum and Gardens. The funds are used to support the preservation, maintenance, operations of the museum and gardens, and its contribution to the culture of Winter Park and Central Florida.
